About
In light of recent events ( COVID-19) and the restrictions on what we are able to do , I decided to put together a “ social distancing “ activity that is an easy family friendly activity or for those who are just bored and want something to do.
This scavenger hunt can be completed entirely from your car , no need to get out unless you really want to. The hunt can be completed in as little as an hour and a half but could last much longer depending on how quickly you are able to solve each puzzle.
First, the Ground Rules!
1) Please follow all mandated “ Shelter-In-Place” restrictions. If you are asked to stay home unless it is for essential items, etc. please DO NOT complete this hunt until a later date where it would then be allowed .
2) Please follow all traffic and trespassing laws. I purposely found steps/stops that would not require you to stop or slow down in active lanes of traffic. Therefore , if you are still in the street and think you may need to stop to take a photo ... you do not. Also, at the time of planning all locations were open and accessible but I did see a few areas that could be closed off to traffic in the future. If area appears to be closed off please DO NOT trespass.
3)Have FUN!!!
About the Hunt
All clues are within Round Rock city limits and most, if not all, clues are in some way linked to an iconic Round Rock landmark.
Some clues could directly be involved with the landmark itself ...some clues could be close by to the landmark.
**I recommend taking photos at each clue once you figure the clue out as the final clue will be solved using all the other clues**
THE CLUES
Be safe!
CLUE 1
A bit of wood and a bit of leather,
connect and make a thwack!
The crowds eyes gaze skyward ,
as he meets the warning track.
He lunges his arm outward,
with some leather on his hand.
In hopes to catch the falling sphere,
and please those in the stands.
Once you figure out this hint,
to help you solve this clue.
Approach the main entrance,
where you’ll find a bronze statue.
Placed in front of this figure,
you will find a plaque.
Take a photo of it,
if this clue you wish to crack.
“Nicknamed the ______________”
1st word - 4th letter
CLUE 2
If spending all of your free time relaxing near the sea ,
Sounds like the type of day you’d love but you forgot your sunscreen.
Then fear not my fellow friends as there seems to be a solution ,
A place that offers a chance to swim without all that sun pollution.
In fact this place allows a swim even when the temps are low ,
So suit up and dive right it , you can just go with the flow.
And when you are all tuckered out and might not want to go,
This place offers a place to sleep so your travels you can forgo.
This place I speak of has a sign that is out near the road ,
Take a photo of this sign as the animal is the code.
5th letter
CLUE 3
When you visit here in the spring the bluebonnets are quite a view,
And you will see all sorts of fields as you are driving through.
From soccer fields to baseball , there is even a landing strip ,
For those who fly R/C planes this place really is equipped!
But some folks say there’s creatures lurking on the trails nearby,
I don’t get the worry though as I heard Bigfoots pretty shy.
There is a mention however of another hidden beast ,
He’s of Scottish origin but I wouldn’t worry in the least.
For this aquatic monster is a tale most find untrue ,
I myself don’t much believe it but tell me ...how bout you ?
This “monster” is said to have been sighted in the center of the park ,
You will find a small lake with “Lakeview pavilion” as it’s landmark.
If you can maneuver your car near the shoreline ,
Keep an eye out for a yellow , cautionary sign.
Once you find this sign take a photo of its threat,
Now RUN AWAY QUICK! Before Nessie gets you wet!
(The sign will have 6 words)
3rd word - 8th letter
CLUE 4
In this city of Round Rock you’ll find a smaller version of itself inside.
A mini hospital , mini fire station , even a mini speedway to take a ride.
However all those riders who partake in such a cruise.
They would need to be of younger age as it’s the kids this would amuse.
And inside this tiny city with it’s mini building frames
One place focuses on reading books and on its side you’ll find two names.
Take a photo of these names to help you solve this stop.
Just drive careful near the mini city , don’t get pulled over by a mini cop!
(The names will consist of 7 words and symbols)
1st word - 2nd letter
CLUE 5
An Ollie , a kickflip, and a grind,
All are tricks that here you will find.
But it may be hiding behind a building perhaps
A place to lift weights or swim some laps.
And once you find this hidden place
A sign will greet you in this space.
And on this sign you’ll find a name
You’ll need to remember it to win this game.
1st name - 1st letter
CLUE 6
Communications happen here with the tiniest of squeaks .
With as many Texas mosquitos we have these things can feast for weeks.
When you are close to solving this clue there’s an easy way to tell.
Just roll down your car window and you’ll surely catch the smell! ( yuck!)
This location is a known one for seeing such a sight ,
as a million small beings will come out just before night.
To solve this clue please be safe when you are doing it ,
an auto parts store is nearby for you to park for just a bit.
Once you get to a safe spot and get your camera all aligned ,
you’ll need to snap a photo of a yellow caution sign.
(The sign will have 5 words)
4th word - 4th letter
CLUE 7
This one is going to be a bit different...you will be given a few hints and then shown a photo. Your goal is to find the item in the photo. Once found you will need to find a plaque about a boy and in his story find out what he is credited with naming.
Hints:
Round Rock's namesake
Chisholm Trail
(NOT) on or at a bridge, please do not stop/park here... But you are close.
what is the boy credited with naming?
1st word - 3rd letter
CLUE 8
“To be or not to be ,that is the question”
A famous line delivered by ones who would call this their profession.
But where would one go in town to see such a display?
I mean if this was up in New York City , we’d just head down to broadway.
Now this place is not so easy to find so maybe I’ll give a small tip.
Find a park that has a torpedo from a WWII naval ship.
Once you find this park that pays honor to those who served ,
Take a look around and the answer can be observed.
Once you find the answer take a photo of the name,
Because on this sign the 3rd word is the answer to this game.
(The sign will have 4 words)
3rd word - 5th letter
CLUE 9
You can see me from almost anywhere ,likely miles away.
I’m one of the biggest landmarks of Round Rock what more do I have to say?
I’m likely the tallest of all my nearby friends,
And I get a lot of visitors, especially over the weekends.
But what many people may not know about me ,
is that just near by a criminal attempted to flee.
Long ago he came to town to commit a crime,
He tried to rob a bank but didn’t make off with a dime .
He thought he was gunna make off with a big prize, but instead he met a Texas Ranger and he met his demise.
Now there is a plaque nearby marking this historic showdown,
You’ll need to snag a photo of it to solve this clue of downtown.
(You will need the title of this marker; 4 words)
3rd word - 4th letter
THE FINAL CLUE

7 4 6 3 2 1 8 9 5
To solve the final clue, place the letter from each clue into it's corresponding space (so clue 1's letter will go into space 1 and so on) Once this spells a word you will now know where to go for your final stop.
Take a photo of the final stop and share it on the facebook page as a comment under the (VICTORY PHOTOS!) post to share with others your victory!
(Please only share it under this post and not on the main page so you don't ruin the ending for anyone else)
